A Project Application is Being prepared - „Implementation of fast tram-lines in Klaipėda and Palanga cities and municipalities of Klaipėda region “

Bringing forth the co-operation agreement signed on June 14, 2005 regarding to the preparation and implementation of Klaipėda, Palanga, and Neringa cities and Klaipėda region development strategy “QUATTRO”, the municipalities of Klaipėda, Palanga, and Neringa cities and Klaipėda region together with Klaipėda County Governor Administration are preparing a project application “Implementation of fast tram-lines in Klaipėda and Palanga cities and municipalities of Klaipėda region.”

This application will be submitted to the Directorate of Transportation Investments by December 23, 2005 to receive funding from the EU structural funds in accordance with the 2004-2006 Lithuania’s General Programming Document, clause 1.1 - “Availability of Transportation Infrastructure and Improvement of Service Quality.”

Klaipėda County Governor Administration is the project’s applicant that unites Klaipėda and Palanga cities’ and municipalities of Klaipėda region as partners. Funding would allow preparing a feasibility study demonstrating possibilities of the tram-lines implementation in Klaipėda and Palanga cities and municipalities of Klaipėda region. If the study does not support the feasibility of tram-lines, the municipalities of sea-side region will realise which further public transportation areas or road infrastructure should be developed.
