SEALED IN ICE
Palanga City residents and its guests had a unique opportunity to observe a magical event March 31 – April 3 this year. Lithuanian TV channel LNK together with theatre of magic “DiArchy” introduced their project “Sealed In Ice” in Jūratė and Kastytis square near the pier.
Arvydas Gaičiūnas and his sister Diana were sealed in a 12-tonne ice block to endure there 63 hours, 31 min and 15 sec and outperformed David Blane’s world record by one hour and 51 min. Such experiment was for the first time endured by a woman.
The two magicians stayed in the ice block for three days without food or sleep left their ice “cage” on Sunday and, in the opinion of doctors, the condition of their health was satisfactory, there were no marks of acute chilblains. Only a couple of hours after Diana and Arvydas left the ice block on Sunday, they were dismissed from Klaipėda hospital.
Several minutes before the magicians left their “ice palace”, the City Mayor presented 63 roses to Arvydas’ wife. The bouquet symbolises 63 cold hours of expectation and warm support from Palanga residents its guests.
During those days Palanga welcomed a huge number of people. The vent attracted as many audience as there are holiday-makers during the summer season opening. To make the time pass quicker for the magicians, famous Lithuanian pop singers had been performing on an LNK-prepared stage, Russian star Filip Kirkorov that arrived in Lithuania also was an accidental witness of the record.
The organisers of the show said that the record would not be registered; yet it would be included in the register of magician records.
We wish Diana and Arvydas good health and we are looking forward to seeing them again in Palanga.
